Marriott Bonvoy has a 5th Night Free benefit on award stays where you book five nights on points and only pay for four. It only works on full points bookings.
This is one of the easiest ways to get more value from Marriott Bonvoy points on longer stays.
I do not usually stay anywhere for five nights, but The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto was one of the few times I did. Five nights on points, with the cheapest night dropping out of the total, which made a real difference given how high award rates stay there year-round. If you have a longer Marriott Bonvoy points booking planned at a single property, it is worth checking this before you confirm since it only works if the stay is fully on points and structured correctly.
How Marriott 5th Night Free Works (Stay for 5, Pay for 4)
You get the benefit when you book five consecutive nights at the same Marriott property on points under one reservation.
It shows up as Stay for 5, Pay for 4 when you book, and the adjustment is applied automatically before you confirm. There is nothing to trigger or select.
The stay must be under one confirmation number and booked directly with Marriott, online, in the app, or by phone. Split reservations will not trigger the benefit. The stay must be booked as a standard award or PointSavers redemption, though it also applies if you are upgrading to a premium room.
The free night is not fixed. Marriott removes the cheapest night in the stay, which can shift with dynamic pricing.
If you are booking a premium room, the free night only covers the standard room cost. The additional points for the upgrade still apply on every night including the free one. When you review the booking summary you will see the free night struck through, but the upgrade points for that night are still included in your total
What Does Not Qualify for Marriott 5th Night Free
Cash + Points bookings do not qualify, and the stay needs to be fully on points. If any part of the stay is cash, the benefit will not apply.
Marriott Free Night Award certificates also do not count toward the five nights. If you mix one into a five-night stay, the free night will not trigger, which is one of the situations where a full points booking can make more sense.
Homes and Villas by Marriott Bonvoy and Marriott Executive Apartments are also excluded since they do not support standard award redemptions.
How Much Marriott 5th Night Free Is Worth in Points
You are effectively getting one night free out of every five, which works out to roughly a 20 percent reduction in points.
The value depends on the property since the free night is always the lowest-priced night in the stay. At higher-end properties, the benefit is more significant.
On longer stays it continues to apply. If you book ten consecutive nights, Marriott looks across the full stay and removes the two lowest-priced nights, wherever they fall.
When It Is Worth Structuring Around
I keep this in mind on longer Marriott stays, but I do not force it.
If Marriott Free Night Award certificates do not fit and cash rates are high, I consider using points for longer stays.
The real decision is between three nights or five nights. Four nights does not really make sense with this benefit.
I would not extend a stay just to make it work. But if five nights already fits the trip, it is worth booking it that way.
