Marriott Bonvoy Points Purchase Promotion

Marriott Bonvoy points promotions run regularly and vary by account, typically ranging from 30 percent to 60 percent bonuses depending on the cycle.

Marriott typically sells points at around 1.25 US cents per point. Promotions are one way to buy points at a discounted rate.

This page tracks the current active promotion and maintains a running history of past offers for comparison purposes. For a detailed breakdown of whether buying Marriott Bonvoy points is worth it, see our separate Should You Buy Marriott Points analysis guide.

How Marriott Bonvoy Points Promotions Work

Marriott promotions are not fixed or predictable. Instead, they rotate between weaker and stronger offers throughout the year, often targeting individual accounts differently.

In general, 40 percent bonuses are common baseline offers. Anything above 50 percent is considered a stronger promotion and tends to represent better value for buyers who already have a redemption in mind. Offers at 30 to 35 percent sit on the weaker end of the range and usually require very specific use cases to justify purchasing.

This variation is important because the effective cost per point can change meaningfully between cycles, even when the headline difference looks small.

Even at the top end of this promotion, pricing remains on the weaker side compared to historical offers.

Marriott Bonvoy Points Purchase Details

Members can purchase a minimum of 2,000 points per transaction and up to 150,000 points per calendar year. Promotional bonuses do not count toward this annual cap.

All purchases are processed through Points.com rather than Marriott directly. These transactions do not code as Marriott hotel spend and will not earn hotel category bonuses or multipliers, even when using a Marriott co-branded credit card.

For Canadian credit cards, purchases are typically charged in USD and converted to CAD by your card issuer. You will also pay any applicable foreign transaction fees and GST/HST depending on how your credit card and bank process the charge. These added costs can significantly impact the value of buying points.

What matters when buying Marriott points

Buying points only makes sense if you already have a specific redemption in mind.

Marriott typically sells points for 1.25 US cents each. Promotions reduce this cost, and the only thing that matters is the final price you are paying versus the cash rate of the stay you plan to book.

If you do not have a redemption already identified, you are effectively buying a flexible currency at a variable rate with no guaranteed return.
