About Points and Places
A few years ago we landed in Boston after eight hours in Lufthansa First Class on the A380. Caviar service, lie-flat beds, private lounge access in Munich, the pilot coming into the cabin to introduce himself. Four seats for our family, booked on Aeroplan points two days before departure.
That trip is probably the best example of what this blog is about. Not just the flight itself, but the process of finding it, understanding how Lufthansa releases First Class award space to partners, knowing where to look and when. That is the kind of thing we write about here.
We have been doing this for over ten years, redeeming tens of millions of points across flights, hotels, and upgrades. We have made expensive mistakes, found redemptions that felt like cheating, and watched the programs change dramatically over that time. Everything on this site comes from actual experience.
Points and Places covers Aeroplan and Avios redemptions, Marriott and Hilton strategies, and honest reviews of hotels and flights we have actually experienced. Some posts walk through how to book specific redemptions. Others cover hotels and flights we have actually stayed in or flown, including when a property does not live up to what it costs in points. We write primarily for a Canadian audience, though most of the redemption strategies here apply across North America.
If that sounds useful, start with the Lufthansa First Class post and go from there.
