Europe is one of the most popular ways to use Aeroplan points. It is also one of the most frustrating. Earning Aeroplan points in Canada is relatively easy but redeeming them for business class to Europe at a reasonable rate is much harder. Air Canada uses dynamic pricing, and award rates can climb past 90,000 or even 120,000 points one way. For Canadians looking at the full picture, Swiss is one of several programs worth comparing when trying to find the cheapest business class to Europe on points.
That is why I have increasingly turned to Swiss International Air Lines for transatlantic flights. Aeroplan has several partner airlines that fly to Europe, but Swiss is often one of the easier options for finding business class availability and booking at predictable rates. The hard product on the A330 is a bit aged but perfectly fine for a flight to Europe. As Swiss rolls out its new business class on the A350, these redemptions are only going to get better.
Where Swiss Flies in North America
Swiss operates nonstop flights to Zurich from Toronto and Montreal in Canada, and New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. in the United States. There is also a Geneva to New York (JFK) route.
If you are not near one of these gateways, you may need to position to a hub city first. The points savings often make it worthwhile. In my experience, award availability tends to be stronger from eastern cities than from the West Coast. Zurich is Swiss’ main hub, which means easy connections to virtually any large European city once you land.
How Much Does Swiss Cost with Aeroplan
Swiss follows Aeroplan’s fixed partner award chart. That means pricing is predictable.
Business class to Europe costs: as of June 1st 2026 are:
- 60,000 points from Northeastern North America, such as Montreal, Boston, and New York
- 75,000 points from Central and Western Canada and the Central and Western United States, including Toronto, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami
In the recent Aeroplan award chart changes, the northeastern tier held at 60,000. Those routes fall within a shorter distance band that was not affected by the June changes. The broader North America to Atlantic band increased by 5,000 points, which is why Toronto and most US cities now sit at 75,000 instead of 70,000.
Taxes and fees remain one of Swiss’ strongest advantages. Aeroplan does not pass along fuel surcharges on Swiss awards, so a typical Toronto to Zurich booking runs around $119 CAD in taxes and fees. That number has not changed.

How to Find Swiss Award Availability
You can book Swiss International Air Lines directly through the standard Aeroplan website or app. If award seats are available, Swiss flights will appear in your search results. However, there are a few important things to understand before booking.
Married Segment Logic
Swiss frequently uses married segment logic. This means a long haul flight may not appear on its own, but it will show when paired with a connecting segment.
For example:
- Toronto Zurich may not display on its own with Swiss
- However, Toronto to Zurich to Vienna may appear
If you do not see the nonstop you want, try searching from nearby European cities or adding a short connection. This small adjustment can unlock hidden award space.
Unfortunately, these married segments usually cannot be broken after booking. You must fly the full itinerary as ticketed, including the onward connection to the secondary city. If your final destination is elsewhere, you would need to book a separate flight after completing the married segment itinerary
Book Early or Book Late
Swiss typically releases award seats to Aeroplan about 300 days before departure, although this can vary.
You will generally find the best availability:
- When the schedule first opens
- Within a few weeks of departure
Award inventory can appear and disappear throughout the year, so it is worth checking regularly, especially if your dates are flexible. You can also use an award alert service to monitor availability automatically.
Understanding these two patterns will dramatically increase your success rate when booking Swiss business class with Aeroplan points.
Can You Book Swiss First Class with Aeroplan
Swiss First Class is generally not released to partner programs, including Aeroplan.

Is Swiss Still Worth It After the June 2026 Changes?
For northeastern travellers, nothing changed. Montreal to Zurich or Boston to Zurich in business class is still 60,000 points, one of the best value transatlantic redemptions available on any program.
For Toronto and most US cities, the 5,000 point increase to 75,000 is noticeable but Swiss still compares well against Air Canada’s dynamic pricing, which regularly hits 90,000 to 120,000 or more for the same routes. Fixed pricing, low fees, and consistent availability continue to make Swiss one of the most valuable partners on the Aeroplan chart.
The A330 hard product is older, but Swiss is gradually rolling out a new business class on the A350. If you land one of those flights, the experience is meaningfully better.
Final Thoughts
Swiss Air business class remains one of the stronger Aeroplan redemptions for a transatlantic flight, especially from the Northeast where pricing held at 60,000 points. Even from Toronto and other hub cities, 75,000 points with low fees and predictable pricing is hard to beat compared to Air Canada awards.
