Journie Rewards and Aeroplan: What You Need to Know
If you fill up at a Pioneer, Fas Gas, Ultramar, Chevron, or On the Run location, you already have access to an easy source of Aeroplan points and SQC that most people are not capturing fully. This post covers what Journie Rewards is, how it connects to Aeroplan, how to link your accounts, and whether it is actually worth doing.

What Is Journie Rewards?
Journie Rewards is the loyalty program operated by Parkland Corporation, the Canadian fuel retailer behind Pioneer, Fas Gas, Ultramar, and Chevron stations as well as On the Run convenience stores. It runs on its own app and its own points currency, separate from Aeroplan. The two programs connect through a formal Air Canada partnership that lets you earn Aeroplan points from Journie activity and redeem Aeroplan points for fuel and in-store discounts at participating locations.
This is a Canadian program. There is no direct equivalent for US-based Aeroplan members.
How to Earn Aeroplan Points
There are two ways to interact with this partnership, and the difference in earn rates makes linking your accounts the better choice for anyone filling up regularly.
Without linking, you can still earn Aeroplan points by providing your Aeroplan number at the pump or in store. The unlinked rate is one Aeroplan point per three litres of gas and one Aeroplan point per dollar spent on eligible in-store purchases. It works without any setup.
In our experience, these points often post very quickly after the transaction, but they can take a bit longer depending on the station and transaction.
Once you link your accounts, earning shifts to Journie’s own points currency first. Linked members earn one Journie point per litre on gas and two Journie points per dollar spent in store. Those Journie points unlock rewards at three tiers: 75 points, 150 points, and 300 points.
At each tier you choose from a selection of available rewards. For linked members, those options can include bonus Aeroplan points or Air Canada in-flight credits alongside fuel discounts and other offers. The rewards available at the 75 and 150 tiers vary and are not guaranteed to include Aeroplan points every cycle.
At the 300-point tier, linked accounts can set Aeroplan points as the default reward, allowing 300 Aeroplan points to be deposited automatically into your Aeroplan account when each cycle completes. At that point, your Journie balance resets to zero and a new cycle begins. You can change this preference in the app if you want a different third-tier reward, but for most people the Aeroplan points option is the right call.
How Journie Affects Your SQC
Not every Aeroplan point you earn through Journie generates SQC, and the distinction matters if you are tracking this as part of a status strategy.
For unlinked members who provide their Aeroplan number at the pump or in store, the points that post are base Aeroplan points and generate SQC at the standard rate of one SQC per five points. A 30-litre fill at one point per three litres produces around 10 points and roughly 2 SQC. It is modest but it counts.
For linked members, only the 300-point cycle completion generates SQC. When your Journie balance reaches 300 and the default Aeroplan points reward is applied, 300 base Aeroplan points land in your account and generate 60 SQC.
The bonus Aeroplan points that may be offered at the 75 and 150-point tiers are treated differently. These are bonus points and do not qualify for SQC. They post as EDQ-eligible only with no SQC attached.
In our experience, Aeroplan points and any associated SQC often post shortly after the qualifying transaction or reward trigger, but timing can vary and is not always immediate.
The SQC earned from Journie feeds into the partner activity bucket, which is capped at 25,000 SQC per year and shared across all eligible everyday partners. Journie alone will not get most people to that cap, but for anyone filling up frequently or running a vehicle for work, it contributes to a broader strategy.
How to Link Your Accounts
Linking takes a few minutes and only needs to be done once. You need an active Aeroplan account and a Journie Rewards account with the app installed. Once you are in the app, follow the prompt to connect your Aeroplan number, or start the process directly through the Aeroplan Journie partner page. One Journie account can link to one Aeroplan account. You can de-link at any time, but doing so ends your access to the linked earn rates and the automatic Aeroplan points conversion.
Once linked, the Journie app handles identification at the pump. You can enter either your Aeroplan number or phone number at the pump to earn Journie Rewards.
Redeeming Aeroplan Points at Journie Stations
Redemptions are handled through your Aeroplan account, not the Journie app. You log in to Aeroplan, navigate to the Journie partner page, and choose the reward you want. Aeroplan points are then redeemed in exchange for a Journie voucher, which is made available in your Journie app for use at participating stations.
There are three redemption options. The gas discount costs 300 points for seven cents per litre off, up to a maximum of 35 cents per litre in a single transaction (up to 50 litres). The On the Run in-store voucher is regularly priced at 500 points for $5 off with a minimum $5 spend, though it was available at a promotional rate of 300 points at the time of writing. The Absolutely Everything car wash costs 1,100 points and the voucher can only be used at the location where it was purchased.
None of these represent strong value for Aeroplan points. At the regular rate, 500 points for a $5 in-store discount works out to roughly one cent per point. The gas discount at 300 points for roughly $3.50 off a 50-litre fill is similarly modest. Aeroplan points are worth considerably more against flight redemptions.
Is It Worth It?
Linking your accounts is worth doing. It is free, takes five minutes, and the improved earn rate requires no change to where you buy gas. If you are already using Parkland-branded stations, there is no reason to leave points on the table.
The program will not be a meaningful driver of Aeroplan elite status for most people. It feeds the partner SQC bucket incrementally, and that bucket has a 25,000 annual cap shared across all eligible partners. Think of Journie as one of several everyday earning channels rather than a strategy on its own. For high-volume drivers or anyone with a vehicle fleet, this can have a more material impact on your SQC accumulation.
The redemption side is not where you want to be sending large quantities of Aeroplan points. Keep those for flights.
